  • Your employer is required to pay you at least the minimum wage. This means that the tipped minimum wage rate for NJ ($2.13) plus whatever else you make needs to add up to at least $8.44 per hour. If for example you made $10 in tips in one hour, your employer would only need to pay you $2.13. If you made $4.87 in tips, your employer would need to pay you an extra $1.44 ($2.13 + $4.87 + $1.44 = $8.44)
