Do I have to follow state or federal laws when it comes to giving breaks to my employees?

  • Generally speaking, you need to follow the law in which jurisdiction you are in. For example, Federal contractors would be following Federal contractors laws. Private companies would need to follow state and federal laws. Many times, states don't have their own laws regarding break time, so you would need to follow the federal laws. Where a State would give additional breaks, you would need to follow the State labor laws.
