what is paternity leave and how do I get it?
What is paternity leave and how do I claim it?
Although this seems like a fairly simple question, there is more to it than just claiming paternity leave. You can claim up to 12 weeks of leave from your work, but you would need to have put in at least a year's worth of work at that employer, as well as making sure you work for a "covered employer" - generally, a company that has at least 50 employees. If your company has their own collectively bargained paternity, you may be entitled to more, or even paid, but for the most part, it will be unpaid leave. If you work for a government entity, they will also usually provide time off.
